Stunning Ceilings.

Interior Design

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I was out of town for work all of last week for our national sales conference. We were in one of my favorite eclectic, funky, laid back cities- Asheville, NC. Anyone ever been? If not, I highly recommend a weekend trip there- the scenery, the food, the music- it’s a fantastic town! Unfortunately, I was stuck inside 95% of the trip, but our meeting was held in a gorgeous location- The Venue in downtown Asheville. This was not your typical event/meeting space. I immediately thought this would be the perfect wedding venue & sure enough, it’s the hot spot around town! One thing that really caught my eye was the ceiling- it’s got exposed brick walls with grand, dark wooden beams on the ceilings. From them hangs a massive crystal chandelier. It’s really the best of rustic meets charm meets elegance. I mean, check out this place:

(I promise, the pics don’t do it justice!)

Anyways, this great space got me thinking about ceilings. Stunning ceilings, to be exact! I think that a fantastic way to take any home (especially a great room/kitchen/dining room/bedroom) from pretty to wow! is with the ceiling. Coffered, exposed beams, molding, lighting…there is SO much that can be done.

Here are a few different styles to bring a little more “umph” to your room:

1. Beadboard

This method is easy, inexpensive, and effective. Provides an interesting touch, without stealing the show:

2. Coffered

Can be pricier, but a great touch to a new build/remodel, especially on high ceilings that need some extra texture:

3. Exposed Beams

These are a classic way to add character to your space & give a rustic, charming, warm vibe:

4. Paint

Inexpensive & quick but done right, a painted ceiling can be a show stopper & completely transform the room:

I’m seeing a trend forming with these black ceilings, what do you think?

Which ceiling style do you like best?
