How to Make Your Bathroom Feel More Luxurious

Bathroom, Interior Design, Styling

Whether you are renting an apartment with roommates, leasing a condo with a significant other or in your forever home with your family, one thing is for certain – we all need a luxurious bathroom! Often times, this is the only space in the home that we get “me” time and can relax by taking a bath, enjoying a sauna, chilling out, etc. Other than the bedroom, this is one of the most sacred rooms in our home – let’s treat it as such! Aside from functionality, I view aesthetics as the most important aspect of any bathroom.

We all know that I love to travel. Well, this is the perfect situation where travel meets design. One of my favorite parts about staying in nice hotels rooms is the feeling of the luxurious bathrooms. I love the plush robes, the fragrant scents, the beautiful finishes – it’s all fabulous! The same goes for nice spas, which often include high-end bathroom areas. Over the years, I have figured out that they all have five key features in common which are easily translatable into your own home. Let’s explore that together…

Incorporate Plants

Bringing nature into your home is one of the best ways to spruce up any space, and the bathroom is no different. If you have the choice, I recommend to opt for fresh flowers every single time. A small grouping of pink roses on the counter or a small vase of hydrangeas on a shelf elevates the look and feel of the room. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window, then try a succulent or another similar plant that requires little to no light. Plants and flowers not only bring in fragrant smells, but they offer pops of color and touches of nature that no other decor item can do.

Invest in Good Towels

This may be my #1 recommendation and hands down the easiest way to make your bathroom feel luxurious…or not. There is nothing worse than getting out of the shower and use a starchy, stiff feeling towel. On the flip side, is there anything better than wrapping your body in a plush, oversized, fluffy towel? I think not. I prefer towels from Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn or HomeGoods (higher end for less). The key to me is being able to feel it yourself, so be sure to go into the store for these. Also, y’all know I recommend white, always. Lastly, I love having a delicious feeling robe in each bathroom as well. Such a lovely touch!

Add Candles

You won’t find a home in our room without a candle burning and there’s a great reason for that. Candles, to me, are an immediate mood relaxer. Something about them makes you chill out, relax and just slow down. I think it’s always appropriate to have candles in the bathroom to cover scents and keep the space smelling fresh. If you have a bath tub, I recommend gathering a variety of candles, as they are an easy, beautiful way to decorate around your tub and they are so calming and romantic to light while enjoying a bath.

Use Yummy Scents

Preferred fragrances and aromas definitely differ per person but everybody has some scents that they like. When I think of how to make a bathroom more luxurious, I recommend purchasing fantastic smelling body wash, shampoo, conditioner and bubble bath. Having these around are such a game changer. I like to gather samples from Sephora to see what I like or buy higher end brands discounted at stores like HomeGoods (where I buy all of my nice hand soap). Whatever scent you prefer, be sure to extend it to your bathroom.

Minimalism is Key

As with most areas of my blog – and of my life – I am a huge proponent for keeping things minimal. Don’t worry – this doesn’t mean boring! In the bathroom, in particular, it’s important to keep the room de-cluttered to create a calm environment. When you think of your favorite spa or hotel room, you’ll notice that most bathrooms are intentionally designed with a minimal, yet sophisticated look. The same should go for your home.

With these five key elements, I feel confident that anyone can turn their bathroom from a basic space into a luxurious haven! Remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful space. Start with a clean, neutral base, toss in delicious scents and candles, accent with high end towels, add a plant or two and boom – dream bathroom created! Now go enjoy a bubble bath in your luxurious room.
