Happy 2021! It’s no surprise that this New Years Eve was spent differently – we had a very low key dinner with a couple of friends and that was about it! It was so nice having both Thursday and Friday off work as we were super productive over the long weekend. From ordering a ton of furniture for the house to having new appliances installed to a huge grocery haul and meal prep sesh – I am going into the first week of January feeling uber productive and ready to work. I have 4 more weeks of (intense) work ahead until I begin my maternity leave. January is going to be challenging – both mentally and physically – but I know it will fly by.
Even though I typically attempt in making New Years resolutions, I thought it would be fun to change things up this year. With so many changes in 2020 (you can read about our new house, big move and baby on the way), one of my main goals for 2021 is to have a bit more consistency and routine. Our lives are about to seriously change and I want to focus on our child, our marriage, our health and our families. It’s officially time to slow down a bit…
Baby: We’re in the home stretch of pregnancy here with less than 2 months to go until Baby Koz arrives. I’ll continue sharing monthly updates (7,8,9) as well as full trimester recaps – both 3rd trimester and 4th trimester. Eventually, I will share any tips I have related to packing my hospital bag, prepping our home for the baby, our finished nursery and my entire experience being pregnant during Covid. I may or may not share my birth experience, depending on how I feel after. While this blog will never turn into a “baby” or “mom” blog, I’ll continue to share bits and pieces as they relate to our everyday lives.
Home: Wow, so much to share on the home front! From renovations we did prior to moving into our home to our design plan for each room (we have a phase 1 and phase 2 a few years down the line) to in-progress projects to completed rooms, I am excited to be documenting this journey. Since we can’t do it all at once and we have a bit of a time crunch on our hands, my focus for now is our master bedroom, the nursery and our guest bedroom. The other rooms will fall into place over time with a few (2nd guest bedroom, dining room) being lowest on the priority list. We also are getting our back deck set up in anticipation of spending time outside this Spring – we just need a few more pieces to arrive and that will be ready to share!
Travel: Of course, it should go without saying that all of this is pending – both on the pandemic/travel restrictions and newborn life (both two huge curve balls that we have zero control over)…however, we have high hopes for a few trips in 2021. We’ll start things off easy with a few close weekend trips to Florida and Charleston in Spring, weather permitting. A nice, warm beach escape sounds like a dream right about now. Also, we’ll hopefully head to Jersey for our annual trip around the 4th of July. It is always the most fun beach week of the year and we are able to see many family members and friends at the same time, which is always nice. We currently have tentative plans to go to Jackson Hole and Big Sky in late Summer as we’ll be tacking on a mini vacation to a fabulous work trip I won. Then we plan to visit our beloved New England for a few weeks in September. We have a wedding in Kennebunkport and thought it would be the perfect time to visit all of our friends in Boston, Nantucket, The Vineyard, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. We are hoping to have at least three weeks to road trip around the area and visit friends. many people to see – ACK, Vineyard, Rhode Island, etc.). This may be serious dreaming, but I’m hoping for a long weekend in either London or Paris in early Fall but that depends mostly on le bebe!
Note: I look forward to re-reading this post in late 2021 to see how much of this was actually done. Could be an all or nothing situation!
Life: With a new baby, I anticipate much more time at home than usual which means long walks, hanging around the house, (hopefully) cooking more and just having more down time. I am not one for silence so I typically have either a podcast, book on tape or tv show on (rarely the latter) – I’d love to hear any recs! I follow Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Bad on Paper’s book club so I have a list a mile long but I just need to find the time to actually sit down and read them. I have always been huge into cooking and baking (something I document more on Instagram than the blog) but hopefully I will have time to share my recipes and meal plan strategies. I would say that we probably have a home cooked meal at least 90% of the time and I am a pretty damn good cook, if I do say so myself. Looking forward to sharing more on this front!
Fitness: I don’t share too much fitness related content on the blog even though my husband owns his own fitness company and has been a personal trainer for over 15 years. I am incredibly lucky in that I have a very knowledgeable, experienced fitness guru living under the same roof. That said, I will likely share more about my post-partum journey which will inevitably include healthy eating, fitness and wellness in general. He’s been a lifesaver in helping me exercise cautiously and safely while pregnant so we’ll see if that makes a difference as I attempt to return to “normal” from a fitness aspect. Health & wellness is such a huge part of our lives that is more “behind the scenes” so it will be fun to share more as it relates to this topic.
